HOW TO FIND A JOB IN TAIWAN

大家好!

I am KENZO currently living in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

In January 22 this year, my working holiday started in Taiwan.

It has already been in Taiwan for about 5 months, and now I would like to share about my thoughts of finding a job here.

As I have worked for one of guesthouses in Kaohsiung as an exchange worker, there should be the things that might be helpful for you guys to start living in this city.

If you are new here, or you are struggling with finding a job in Taiwan, I hope this would help you.

HOW TO FIND A JOB IN TAIWAN

1. FACEBOOK

You already might know this. There are a couple of ways to look for a job in Taiwan, and one of the most known ways of finding a job is on FACEBOOK.

Taiwanese people are very familiar with using FACEBOOK, so there are lots of groups such as related with job hunting, flat mates, buy second hand stuffs etc.
Then now, what groups I suggest you to join in for job hunting is “non-teaching job in Taiwan”. This group shares lots of jobs availability day by day and those are not teaching jobs. You just need to check the latest posts and if you find what you want to apply, then you only need to contact to the person. However, keep in mind, it is quite casual ways to look for a job, so mostly there are only part-time jobs and sometimes there are a bit curious job opportunities, so if you are interested in then advise you to ask in details what you want to know.

If you are looking for a teaching job in Taiwan, you can look for a language school and directly apply. Or you can also use Facebook page “找家教, 找語言交換, 找才藝交換 – Looking for Tutor, Language Exchange, Talent Exchange”. There are also other groups similar to this group, so you can make a best use of Facebook.

2. FROM LOCAL PEOPLE

It is not the best way to find a job, but in my case, I could get my exchange job from cafe owner, so guess it works sometimes. So… Let me tell you from my experience, I liked to always go to one of cafes in Kaohsiung, and one day, cafe owner introduced one lady who is a owner of guest house nearby. At the time my Chinese ability was not good enough to work in my opinion, but I could have a job interview, and could start working as a cleaner at the guest house. I know it is not an ideal job for many people including me, but there are only Taiwanese people working there now so I thought it was pretty good opportunity to work using Chinese. And now after working there for 2 months, the owner gave me chance to work as a receptionist. Also, the owner introduced another job in a different place, so I could earn some extra money too. It was just a lucky coincidence, but it could be one of the ways to get a job. I recommend you to be a special customer for some of cafes or restaurants.

3. 104人力銀行

This should be the most typical method of looking for a job in Taiwan. “109人力銀行” is an APP for finding a job used in entire Taiwan. Most of jobs are listed on this APP, but only written in Chinese. If you want to expand your work opportunity and can understand Chinese, I also recommend you to use this APP. There are also some English or other languages teacher jobs as well.

4. Others

Lastly, I would like to introduce one of Facebook page (Facebook is very important in Taiwan!). The page is named “打工換宿.背包環島” This page is for finding an exchange job mostly guest house jobs. Some of jobs even give you some extra salary, so you can check out some of posts on the page and contact them. I haven’t used the page, but seems like written in Chinese, so it might be only available for Chinese speaker. But worth contacting if you find something that you like.
